BANJA LUKA, SEPTEMBER 12 /SRNA/ – The joint marking of Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag Day in Republika Srpska and Serbia has important historical, cultural, political and identity-related significance, Professor Borivoje Milošević of the University of Banja Luka's Faculty of Philosophy told SRNA.
"Serbia and Republika Srpska thereby remind of their shared historical heritage, suffering and the exceptional contribution to victory in the Great War, strengthening the culture of remembrance and passing historical knowledge on to younger generations," Milošević said.
He noted that the breakthrough of the Salonica Front marked the beginning of the final phase of the First World War and heralded the imminent collapse of the Central Powers.
"The joint commemoration also demonstrates that Serbia and Republika Srpska cherish shared historical values, traditions and their cultural and historical heritage," Milošević stressed.
Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag Day will be jointly marked in Banja Luka on Monday, Sept. 14, organized by the governments of Republika Srpska and Serbia.
Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag Day is a public holiday observed on Sept. 15 in Serbia and Republika Srpska. The date was symbolically chosen to coincide with the anniversary of the breakthrough of the Salonica Front.
