MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR SERBS KILLED IN AN AMBUSH AT CRNI VRH TO BE HELD TOMORROW

ZVORNIK, SEPTEMBER 9 /SRNA/ - The 34th anniversary of the killing of 11 members of the Army of Republika Srpska, police officers and civilians will be marked at Crni Vrh near Zvornik tomorrow.

They were killed in an ambush by Bosnian Muslims from Srebrenica on September 10, 1992.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 at the site where they were killed, followed by the laying of wreaths and the lighting of candles. At 11:30, family members of the fallen and captured soldiers, as well as representatives of organizations stemming from the Defensive-Patriotic War, are scheduled to address those gathered.

Milivoje Marković, president of the City Organization of Families of Captured and Fallen Soldiers and Missing Civilians, told SRNA that 34 years ago, Bosnian Muslims from Srebrenica ambushed a convoy of vehicles at Crni Vrh and committed an unprecedented crime against civilians, soldiers and police officers, most of whom were wearing civilian clothes.

He reiterated that on September 10, 2010, a memorial plaque was erected for the first time at the site where the attack took place. It was subsequently torn down and desecrated by unknown individuals six days later.

That same year, it was desecrated again when the table and benches were removed, and the metal posts and chains around the memorial were cut down.

"Three years later, in 2013, a larger and thicker granite plaque was erected, but it suffered the same fate as the previous one. A new memorial plaque was installed and consecrated a year later, but its subsequent desecration was reported on January 2, 2024," Marković said.

He reminded that a new memorial plaque was erected at the same site, with financial support from the City of Zvornik and the City Organization of Families of Captured and Fallen Soldiers and Missing Civilians.

Following the desecration, which was an insult to the Serbian victims and the Serbian people, video surveillance was installed at the site.
