BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 25 /SRNA/ – Acting director of Šume Srpske Blaško Kaurin stated that the company has recorded better results this year and expressed confidence that it is moving toward positive operations if it maintains its current production pace.
"We’re moving forward and making progress. The company’s condition is improving every day. The data show that Šume posted a loss of about BAM 6.27 million in the first nine months of 2024, while in the same period this year, the loss was BAM 3.69 million. Also, last year we had 20 forest management units operating at a loss and 12 with positive results. This year, there are 14 in the negative and 18 in the positive", Kaurin stated in an SRNA podcast.
He noted that numerous control and other measures implemented since the beginning of this year have contributed to improving the situation in Šume.
Kaurin said that when he took over as director last year, the company had about 4,670 employees.
"According to the official data from the Republic Tax Administration as of October 10, the company currently has 4,235 employees. I cannot say at the moment what the optimal number of workers for our company would be, but we are working on a new rulebook regarding job systematization. It’s a large task, but I hope that by the end of next month we will be able to present official figures in that regard", Kaurin says.
He emphasized that all matters related to this issue are being handled by the company’s management in consultation with trade union representatives.
"We must think of the employees and ensure their satisfaction, which is also the position of the leadership of Republika Srpska. So, if we move toward reducing the number of employees, the goal is for it to happen voluntarily and by mutual agreement, never by force", Kaurin stressed.
