BELGRADE, OCTOBER 1 /SRNA/ - The SNSD candidate for President of Republika Srpska Siniša Karan, with his expertise and extensive experience, is the right person to lead Srpska until the regular elections, and coalition partners will discuss his candidacy, which will be formalized in a few days, said United Srpska leader Nenad Stevandić.

Stevandić, who is also the Speaker of the Republika Srpska National Assembly, assessed that Karan, as a professor of Constitutional Law, is a suitable candidate for President of Republika Srpska in the difficult constitutional crisis that BiH currently finds itself in.

He pointed out that Karan has also served as a minister in two important areas in the previous and current Government of Republika Srpska.

Stevandić emphasized that the Republika Srpska National Assembly will soon appoint a person to act as President of Republika Srpska until a new one is elected in the early elections scheduled for November 23. He clarified that a constitutional framework must be established for this, as was the case following the removal of Nikola Poplašen from office or the death of Milan Jelić.

"The National Assembly is the highest legislative body, and even if the Constitution does not directly foresee such a situation, a parliamentary decision can fill the legal vacuum. We have done this before, and it is not unconstitutional," Stevandić said.

He emphasized that Republika Srpska must not allow a repeat of the "Kosovo scenario," in which decisions about its fate would be made outside of its institutions.

"Our strength lies in patience. It is what costs us the most, but it also sustains us. We are not angels; we make mistakes, but we remain steadfast in defending our institutions. The most important thing is to preserve Republika Srpska," Stevandić told Pink Television.

He added that Srpska must not be drawn into political tricks and improvisations that could lead to destabilization.

"We do not make a mistake when we take statesmanlike steps. We may be impatient, as Patriarch Pavle used to say, but we must be wise," Stevandić said.

Speaking about Christian Schmidt as the source of the entire crisis in Republika Srpska and BiH, Stevandić emphasized that one cannot expect fairness from people who glorify Nazism.

"The Serbs paid a high price in that struggle, and we will not accept historical revisionism," Stevandić said.
