BANJA LUKA, MARCH 10 /SRNA/ - The duty of Republika Srpska and the Serbian people is to ensure that Serbian children who perished in the Defensive-Patriotic War are given a dignified place in the history of our suffering and protected from being forgotten, Republika Srpska President Siniša Karan told SRNA.

On the occasion of marking the Day of Remembrance for the killed children of Serbian Sarajevo, March 11, when the girls Nataša Učur /10/ and Milica Lalović /11/ were killed by a sniper shot, and whose tragic fates became a symbol of the suffering of children in the Sarajevo-Romanija Region, President Karan said that we remember with deep sorrow the 118 innocent children from Serbian Sarajevo whose lives were unjustly cut short during the war from 1992 to 1995.

"Smiles, dreams, and childhood were extinguished forever. Entire families put on mourning clothes that they will never take off. The crime against children remains one of the most painful wounds of our people and a reminder of how difficult the Defensive-Patriotic War was, and how much the Serbian people suffered during it," emphasized Siniša Karan.

The President of Republika Srpska stressed that remembrance is not only a look into the past, but also the foundation of our dignity, self-respect, and truth, as well as of our future.

"We must not allow silence to cover their names. Forgetting would be their second death. That is why we must speak, remember, and repeat the truth, for them and their families, for justice, and for the generations to come. Only a people that preserves the memory of its victims knows who it is, where it comes from, and where it is going. May their glory be eternal!" the president of Srpska said.
