BANJA LUKA, MAY 20 /SRNA/ –Republika Srpska President Siniša Karan expressed condolences to the family of the late Dobrila Kukolj, a former inmate of the Jasenovac concentration camp and long-time head of the Banja Luka Association of World War II Camp Inmates, stressing that throughout her life she carried the heavy burden of suffering, yet had the strength to speak about it with dignity and courage, testifying to the truth on behalf of all those who did not live to see freedom.

"With immeasurable sadness, I received the news of the death of Dobrila Kukolj, who as a young girl survived the horrors of the Jasenovac concentration camp. Her will to live, strength, and dedication to the truth left a deep mark and preserved the memory of innocent victims as a warning that such evil must never happen again," Karan stated in a telegram of condolence to the Kukolj family.

The president of Republika Srpska emphasized that the passing of Dobrila Kukolj has left a deep void and sorrow not only for her family and friends, but for entire Republika Srpska, which will remember her with great respect, reads a statement from the Office of the Republika Srpska president.

"Sharing in the pain that has befallen you, on behalf of the citizens of Republika Srpska and in my own name, I extend my deepest condolences," President Karan stated.

Dobrila Kukolj passed away today in Banja Luka at the age of 94.
