GRAORAC CALLS FOR GREATER ATTENTION TO KILLINGS OF SERBS ON ST. PETER'S DAY 1992

BANJA LUKA, JULY 12 /SRNA/ – Srebrenica and Bratunac today remember the 69 Serbs killed on St. Peter's Day in 1992, while their perpetrators walk freely and live as though nothing happened, the president of the Republika Srpska Organization of Families of Captured and Killed Soldiers and Missing Civilians, Isidora Graorac, said in a statement to SRNA.

"Every household in this part of Podrinje today has someone for whom to light a candle, pray, and remember St. Peter’s Day 1992, when people were killed in their homes, on their own hearths, when life came to a standstill in Sase, Zalazje, and Biljača. And while Serbs pray for their souls, the criminals who killed them walk freely", Graorac said.

Regarding Serb victims, Graorac said there has been no justice or legal proceedings.

"No one has been held accountable for our victims. How long will we continue asking unanswered questions? How long will the families of these victims watch injustice and wait for the perpetrators who brutally killed their loved ones to be behind bars, where they should have been long ago?" Graorac asked.

She added that tears, pain and sorrow are a daily reality for these families, that this will not end, nor will their desire for justice, truth, and for the perpetrators to face justice.

“For their sake, because of their sacrifice, their tragic fate, and the killing of innocent people, we must persevere, speak louder and more often, point the finger at the perpetrators, and insist on truth and justice. Today is a dark day for mothers, sisters, children, and for all the people of Srebrenica and Bratunac,” Graorac said.

She stated that there are no words today that can ease the grief, but there is support, compassion, and a commitment to bringing those responsible to justice, something that will never be abandoned.

The 34th anniversary of the deaths of 69 Serb civilians and soldiers is being marked today in Zalazje near Srebrenica. According to the report, they were killed on St. Peter's Day in 1992 in the Srebrenica villages of Sase and Zalazje, and the Bratunac villages of Biljača and Zagoni, by members of Muslim forces.

In addition to the 69 people killed and a large number wounded, 22 Serbs went missing on that tragic St. Peter's Day. Ten of them were accidentally found and exhumed on June 10, 2011, from a mass grave at Zalazje while searching for deceased Bosniak victims.
