ĐOKIĆ: SRPSKA COMMITTED TO FULFILLING OBLIGATIONS

ATHENS, JULY 17 /SRNA/ – The Minister of Energy and Mining of Republika Srpska Petar Đokić told SRNA that Srpska is fully committed to fulfilling the obligations arising from membership in the Energy Community and to continuing integration with the European energy market.

Đokić, who participated in an informal meeting of the Energy Community Ministerial Council and in the ceremony marking 20 years since the establishment of this community, reminded that the entity ministries, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations in the Council of Ministers, have achieved significant progress.

He emphasized that this progress resulted in a harmonized text of the Law on the Regulator, Transmission, and Electricity Market in BiH – a key prerequisite for full market integration.

"We are improving the regulatory framework and technical capacities, aligning climate and energy policies, and preparing for integration with European markets. Our goal is a stable, reliable, and efficient energy system that will benefit both citizens and the economy," Đokić stressed.

He added that the line ministry will continue active cooperation with the European Commission and the Energy Community Secretariat, especially concerning the implementation of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.

Đokić said that BiH expects an exemption from the application of this mechanism, given that its implementation would severely impact both power utilities and lead to serious economic and social disruptions.

The meeting discussed key steps towards connecting the electricity markets of Energy Community member countries with the European market, as well as the introduction of an emissions trading system.

During the ceremonial part of the program, an important anniversary was marked – two decades of the Energy Community's existence.

Its role in strengthening relations between the European Union and countries of the region, encouraging investments, and improving the security of supply and stability of the energy sector in Southeast Europe was highlighted.
