BANJA LUKA, SEPTEMBER 13 /SRNA/ – Serb member of the BiH Presidency Željka Cvijanović said today that the celebration of the patron saint's day at the Orthodox Military Chapel of the Holy New Martyrs of Jasenovac at the "Kozara" Barracks was an opportunity to thank all Serbs serving in the defense system.

"Republika Srpska has always counted on them and always will. Special gratitude goes to all those serving in the Third Infantry /Republika Srpska/ Regiment who are doing everything in their power, and succeeding very effectively, in preserving the values and traditions of our Serbian fighters," Cvijanović said.

According to her, members of the Third Infantry /Republika Srpska/ Regiment, through their dedicated service, pay tribute to all members of the Army of Republika Srpska who gave us the freedom we enjoy today.

"When we speak of freedom, we cannot fail to remember all those who gave their lives for that freedom, nor can we forget all those who innocently suffered and were killed in the Second World War, whom we commemorate today," Cvijanović told reporters.

She expressed satisfaction at today’s prayer gathering at the Military Chapel of the Holy New Martyrs of Jasenovac, stressing that the victims of Jasenovac are a burden on humanity's conscience.

"They were brutally killed in an attempt to destroy our people. But the fact that we are here today and live in freedom shows that we have managed to survive as a people," Cvijanović stated.

Cvijanović stressed that the Serb people would preserve their institutions because they are a guarantee of their survival.

"They are a guarantee of the survival of Republika Srpska, and Republika Srpska is a safe haven for all of us," Cvijanović said.

Congratulating those marking the patron saint's day, Cvijanović said the occasion was an opportunity for representatives of Republika Srpska involved in the defense system, representatives of the institutions of Republika Srpska and representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church to come together.

"This is an opportunity for us to gather and show that we are people of Republika Srpska, that we belong to one people, and that we want to preserve our freedom, our traditions, our identity and everything that is important for the survival of a people," Cvijanović added.
