ZVORNIK, OCTOBER 23 /SRNA/ – The first and second volumes of the book “Blagoje Jovović: A Serbian Hero in the Wolf’s Den” were presented this evening in Zvornik, which was qualified as a major contribution to Serb historiography, revealing truths that could not be spoken of during the Tito era.

The president of the Serbian Cultural Centre “Ćirilica” from Belgrade, Milorad Đošić, said that this book fully restores the memory of Blagoje Jovović, the hero who carried out the attempted assassination on Ante Pavelić, the wartime leader of the Independent State of Croatia /NDH/.

The author of the book, Jovović’s daughter, Marija, said that she wrote her father’s biography based on available documentation possessed by people in Montenegro, and that she also spent time in Italy, where she collected archive materials related to the killing of Ante Pavelić.

“I had access to archives in Italy, where I found a lot of material from Ustasha members who lived in Rome after World War II,” Jovović said, adding that she is currently gathering archival materials for the third volume of the book.

Belgrade professor Marko Milović stated that the book’s contribution is significant because the event was unknown for decades, for more than 40 years, there was silence, and it was not clearly known who carried out the attack on Pavelić.

Milović emphasized that what makes Blagoje Jovović remarkable is that neither he nor his family were directly affected by NDH crimes, as they were originally from Bjelopavlići near Nikšić, yet he believed carrying out the act was a heroic deed.
