VIŠEGRAD, JUNE 26 /SRNA/ – American politician of Serbian origin Rod Blagojevich said in Stari Brod that the crime committed against Serbs in this location is yet another example of the unfair treatment of the Serbian people in the world.

Blagojevich stated that visiting this site, where Serbs were massacred, was a profound experience for him and that he had not been aware that such an atrocity had happened to the Serbian people.

“I didn’t know something like this had happened, and I’ve learned a great deal about Serbian history,” Blagojevich told reporters, expressing hope that such crimes will never happen to anyone again.

He emphasized that it is astonishing that this crime against Serbs was unknown until recently, adding that even today there is still insufficient information about it.

“If you conceal evil, you cooperate with it. And if you commit evil, then you act against God,” Blagojevich stressed.

He also recalled a speech by former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, who said that his country would never forget those who lost their lives in World War II, underlining the importance of a culture of remembrance.

“As a young congressman, I visited Israel and their museum in Jerusalem, and this museum in Stari Brod reminds me of that,” Blagojevich said.

Rod Blagojevich arrived in Republika Srpska on June 22 at the invitation of President Milorad Dodik, with whom he visited Višegrad and the memorial complex in Stari Brod today, where they laid wreaths and paid tribute to the Serbs who perished during World War II.
