BJELICA: NEW MEMORIAL COMPLEX IN TRNOVO TO BE BUILT WITH SERBIA’S GOVERNMENT’S ASSISTANCE

TRNOVO, AUGUST 31 /SRNA/ – Trnovo Municipality Mayor Miroslav Bjelica met today with a delegation from the Serbia’s Ministry of Culture to discuss the construction of a new memorial dedicated to the fallen soldiers and killed civilians of this local community.

Bjelica says the Serbia’s delegation, comprising State Secretary Dejan Antić, Assistant Minister for Contemporary Creativity Miodrag Ivanović, and Director of Serbia’s National Folk Dance and Song Ensemble “Kolo” Zdravko Ranisavljević, was briefed on the suffering of Serbs in this area.

"We received a positive response and were promised assistance in constructing the new memorial complex," Bjelica told the press.

He noted that this was the first official visit by a delegation of the Serbia’s Government to this local community and expressed his gratitude.

Antić said that the Serbia’s delegation had come today on behalf of Minister Nikola Selaković and the Serbia’s Government to assess and support the municipality’s efforts to invest in preserving national identity.

"We realized how important it is to strengthen identity policy, one of the requests was the construction of a memorial complex," Antić said.

According to him, Trnovo Municipality will be able to apply through a new funding call Srpska in Focus, thus secure funding for the project.

Antić expressed his confidence that the new memorial would be built by the end of the year.

"I was stunned by the fact that the youngest victim of the Defensive Homeland War was an 18-month-old baby, while the oldest was a 92-year-old woman," Antić said.
