ISTOČNO SARAJEVO, OCTOBER 19 /SRNA/ - Billboards featuring a photograph of Muslim wartime leader Alija Izetbegović were put up today in the municipalities of Istočno Novo Sarajevo and Istočna Ilidža, bearing a message that 23 years after his death, his bloody hands remain unwashed and those responsible for Muslim crimes against Serbs have not been forgotten.
The billboards were put up on the 23rd anniversary of the death of Izetbegović, the author of the "Islamic Declaration".
The posters feature text in Serbian and English.
Alija Izetbegović /1925 - 2003/, author of the "Islamic Declaration", wartime leader of the Muslim army, long-serving president of the SDA and former member of the BiH Presidency, died on October 19, 2003.
In the Bosniak public sphere, Izetbegović is regarded as a "tolerant, wise politician and modern democrat," while the other half of BiH sees him as a politician who led the country into civil war because of his religious fanaticism and misguided political assessments.
Izetbegović authored the "Islamic Declaration", which he never renounced and in which he states that society will live in accordance with Islamic customs as soon as Muslims obtain a decisive majority.
