BANJA LUKA, MAY 30 /SRNA/ – The 23rd anniversary of the death of Colonel General Momir Talić, commander of the First Krajina Corps and Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Republika Srpska /VRS/, was marked today in Piskavica near Banja Luka.
The Holy Liturgy was served at the church in Piskavica, followed by a memorial service. Wreaths and flowers were laid at the memorial bust by President Milorad Dodik, Minister of Justice of Republika Srpska Goran Selak, Minister of Finance and Treasury in the Council of Ministers Srđan Amidžić, representatives of the Organization of Army of Republika Srpska Officers, and Serb representatives in the joint institutions of BiH.
In addition to family members and numerous friends and admirers of General Talić, the memorial service was attended by the Mayor of Banja Luka, Draško Stanivuković, the President of the City Assembly, Ljubo Ninković, and the President of the SNSD City Committee, Goran Maričić.
Wreaths were laid by the General's son and his family, followed by Dodik, Amidžić, and Maričić, then Selak on behalf of the institutions of Republika Srpska, delegations from the Organization of VRS Officers, organizations originating from the Defense-Patriotic War, the First Armored Brigade Association, and other delegations, including the City Assembly and Mayor Stanivuković.
Prior to this, a minute of silence was held to pay respects to General Talić and all fallen Serb fighters.
On July 26, 1991, General Momir Talić was appointed Chief of Staff of the Fifth Corps of the then-YPA /Yugoslav People's Army/, which later evolved into the First Krajina Corps.
He made an exceptional contribution to the breakthrough of the Corridor, which connected the western and eastern territories of Republika Srpska. For his military merits, General Talić was awarded the Order of Nemanjić, the highest military decoration of Republika Srpska.
General Momir Talić died on May 28, 2003, at the Military Medical Academy /VMA/ in Belgrade.
