NOVA GORICA, NOVEMBER 2 /SRNA/ - A 19-year-old man from Serbia has gone missing on Triglav, the highest peak of the Julian Alps, the Nova Gorica Police Administration said.

The young man went missing on Saturday, October 31, and yesterday rescuers found his personal belongings and footprints in the snow at an altitude of 2,130 meters. The search for the missing man is still under way.

He set out on a very demanding mountaineering route via Plemenice, and there has been no trace of him since, Slovenian portal "24ur" reported.

Slovenian police were informed of his disappearance last night, and members of the Mountain Rescue Service from Bovec and Mojstrana have joined the search.

The Nova Gorica Police Administration said strong winds and clouds made it impossible to use helicopters.

The Plemenice route is one of the most demanding marked mountaineering trails on Triglav. It runs through steep, exposed parts of the mountain, and snow, ice and strong winds further increase the danger.
