WASHINGTON, OCTOBER 6 /SRNA/ - A US House of Representatives resolution honoring Serbian-American heritage and the contribution of the Serbian community to the United States has gained the support of three more members of Congress - Mike Quigley and Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois and Gwen Moore of Wisconsin.
The Serbian Embassy in the United States said the additional support from the three Democratic lawmakers came as US President Donald Trump, speaking about relations between the two countries, said the United States had very good relations with Serbia.
The Embassy said Resolution H.Res. 1474 was particularly significant because it not only recognized the historical and contemporary contribution of Americans of Serbian origin to the development and progress of the United States and to strengthening relations between the two countries, but also called for the longstanding ties, friendship and partnership to be commemorated and celebrated.
As bilateral relations continue to advance and a strategic dialogue is launched, Serbia is continuing to strengthen ties and the foundations of cooperation across different segments of American society and institutions, from Congress and the administration to the business, academic and cultural communities, as well as through direct people-to-people links.
A special role belongs to the large and successful Serbian community in the United States, which for generations has been one of the most important bridges between Serbia and the United States.
Support for the resolution once again confirms the importance of that heritage, as well as a shared commitment to building even stronger Serbia-US relations in the future, the statement said.
