PROTECTION OF SERBS AND SERBIAN HERITAGE IN KOSOVO AND METOHIJA REQUESTED FROM KFOR COMMANDER

BELGRADE, JULY 23 /SRNA/ - The Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilović, requested the KFOR Commander, Major General Özkan Ulutaş, that international security forces protect Serbs and the Serbian religious, cultural, and historical heritage in Kosovo and Metohija.

Mojsilović pointed out that Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija do not feel safe, and requested that KFOR, as the only legitimate armed formation, fulfill its obligations in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Military Technical Agreement, and protect the Serbian people and their heritage.

During the meeting in Belgrade, the interlocutors assessed that the situation in Kosovo and Metohija remains sensitive and fragile, and therefore, international security forces must be ready to protect the population and maintain a safe environment in accordance with their mandate, the Serbian Ministry of Defence announced.

The meeting included discussions on the current security situation in Kosovo and Metohija and the activities undertaken by the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR to monitor the situation on the ground and prevent the emergence and escalation of crises.

In this regard, the importance of constant and direct contacts between the relevant levels of the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR at all levels was emphasized.
