MOSCOW DOING EVERYTHING TO PREVENT ETHNIC CLEANSING OF SERBS IN KOSOVO AND METOHIJA

BELGRADE, AUGUST 19 /SRNA/ - Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, is doing everything it can to prevent the ethnic cleansing of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko said at the international conference "Suffering of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, UN Resolution 1244 and International Law" in Belgrade.

"We are doing everything to prevent Priština from carrying out its plans for the ethnic cleansing of Kosovo. For us, supporting Serbia internationally is one of the most important directions of our foreign policy," the Russian ambassador said.

Former State Duma Deputy Sergey Baburin said that it was necessary to defend international law, noting that the lawlessness began with NATO's aggression against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

He stressed that it was necessary to debunk the myth that KFOR's presence in Kosovo and Metohija is in accordance with Resolution 1244, adding that Serbia should terminate the Kumanovo Agreement, under which the presence of this mission in Kosovo and Metohija was established.

"International forces, rather than NATO forces, should be established," Baburin said, warning that the EU wants Serbia to fight against Russia for the first time and give up Kosovo and Metohija.

"That must not happen. Serbia cannot be imagined without the Patriarchate of Peć and Visoki Dečani," Baburin said, as reported by Sputnik.

The conference discussed the causes of the persecution of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija, the content of UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and its failure to be respected.
Professor at the University of North Mitrovica Aleksandar Đikić spoke about the suffering of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija from his personal perspective and experience in the Serbia’s Parliament.

Representatives of 18 embassies, as well as a UN representative, attended the conference.

The conference was organised by the "It Is Time" Parliamentary Group for National Remembrance and Suffering in the Serbia’s Parliament.
