INDIVIDUAL LINKED TO PIPELINE PLOT HAD MILITARY RANK IN THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN

BELGRADE, APRIL 7 /SRNA/ - The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić said that the individual who allegedly planned to blow up the Serbia-Hungary gas pipeline in Kanjiža held a military rank in the army of his country, from which he had also fled to Serbia.

Vučić stated that there are certain leads in the case, noting that calls had been made from some regional phone numbers to certain embassies in Serbia.

He emphasized that the quantity and power of the explosives found were of such destructive force, comparable to an "Iskander", that it would have been impossible to prevent a major fire had the attack occurred.

Vučić categorically rejected insinuations by certain Western media that he and the Serbian Army were using the case to assist Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban ahead of upcoming elections in Hungary.

“The army has never interfered in domestic elections, let alone foreign ones. Those who claim that the army intended to interfere in elections in Hungary should be ashamed, British media lie the most,” Vučić said.
