DAČIĆ: JOINT CELEBRATION BULL’S EYE; KEEP BUILDING CULT OF HOLIDAY

BELGRADE, SEPTEMBER 15 /SRNA/ – Serbia’s Interior Minister Ivica Dačić told SRNA that the joint marking of the Day of the Unity of Serbs, Freedom and the National Flag is a bull’s eye and that Serbia and Republika Srpska should continue this tradition.

"The idea itself is not directed against anyone. It is based on the fact that many countries and peoples have established such a holiday, so why should it be a problem for Serbs to do the same? However, it is obvious that it bothers," said Dačić, who attended a ceremony at the Palace of Serbia where decorations were presented to deserving individuals and institutions.

Dačić said that it is obvious that someone’s goal is for Serbia not to celebrate anything from its history, and not to have a cult of its flag or its national holidays.

"That is why I think this is a bull’s eye, and that we should preserve this tradition in the future as well. It is something we should all work on - establishing the institution, or rather the cult of the Unity of Serbs Day," Dačić said.

He concluded that unity is what Serbia lacks the most, thus it should therefore be built patiently.

Serbia and Republika Srpska mark the Day of the Unity of Serbs, Freedom and the National Flag in memory of September 15, 1918, when the Serbian army broke through the Salonica Front, which led to the collapse of the alliance of the Central Powers and the end of the First World War.
