14.7 TONNES OF RED PEPPERS FROM ALBANIA DESTROYED OVER PRESENCE OF BANNED FUNGICIDE

ZAGREB, SEPTEMBER 10 /SRNA/ - Croatia destroyed 14.7 tonnes of red peppers from Albania due to the presence of a banned pesticide.

The decision to destroy the peppers was made after an analysis showed that they contained a high concentration of the fungicide proquinazid.

It is a fungicide approved for use on grapevines to control fungal diseases, particularly powdery mildew, but under no circumstances for use on vegetables, the media reported.

A very similar incident occurred on September 7, when another shipment of peppers originating from Albania was destroyed after analyses revealed a high level of the pesticide acetamiprid.
