ISTOČNA ILIDŽA, SEPTEMBER 10 /SRNA/ - Five folklore groups performed today in the churchyard of the Church of the Holy Hieromartyr Petar of Dabar-Bosnia in Vojkovići as part of the cultural and artistic program of the 20th All-Serbian Assembly of Cultural Creativity of the Homeland and the Diaspora.
The following cultural and artistic societies performed in the churchyard: Jahorina from Trnovo, Sretenje from Rogatica, Sveti Đorđe from Novo Goražde, Dabar from Priboj, and Bratstvo from Istočna Ilidža.
This year’s All-Serbian Assembly is being held under the slogan, “My Village, I Would Not Love You If I Had Not Been Born in You.”
Event organizer Ranko Skakavac said that the event aims to pass Serbian traditions, customs, songs and dances, and everything Serbian on to children and young people.
Reminding that the assembly opened on August 21, Skakavac said that all activities and events were suspended on August 27 following the death of Republika Srpska Army General Ratko Mladić. He added that, in addition to folklore groups, gusle players are also included in the program.
For Saturday, September 12, he announced a traditional folk celebration in the churchyard in Vojkovići, featuring the trumpet orchestra of Branislav Ostojić. The following day, a competition in traditional singing and the announcement of the winners are planned, followed at 6:00 p.m. by a concert by Danica Crnogorčević, a performer of ethno, spiritual, and patriotic music. Goci Bend will then entertain those in attendance.
The assembly is organized by the Vojkovići Serbian Cultural and Artistic Society, under the auspices of the Municipality of Istočna Ilidža and sponsored by the Istočno Sarajevo Tourism Organization.
