ZAVIDOVIĆI, SEPTEMBER 8 /SRNA/ - The situation with the fire near Vozućica Monastery is good this morning and there is no danger to the holy site, Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Zoran Živković told SRNA, expressing hope that it will remain so.
"We had another intervention around midnight last night. A few of our people stayed behind to keep watch, and the fire broke out again near the bell tower, but they managed to contain it," Father Živković said.
He said that the situation had been checked twice since this morning - around 5:00, when the situation was good, and around 7:30, when flames could again be seen in several places, but, as he said, the situation was not critical.
"There are currently two people at the site who are monitoring the area and will respond if anything appears," Father Živković stressed.
Protopresbyter Živković noted that they did not need additional manpower today and expressed hope that the intervention of firefighters would not be necessary either.
"We will organize shifts so that we can keep track of the situation," priest Živković said.
The fire broke out on Sunday, September 6, and engulfed forest near Vozućica Monastery. Police, firefighters, foresters and local residents were on the ground. Yesterday, the fire spread to the cemetery, approximately 200 meters from the monastery.
Vozućica Monastery belongs to the Metropolitanate of Dabar-Bosnia of the Serbian Orthodox Church. It is dedicated to the Holy Trinity and was built in the 14th century as an endowment of Serbian King Dragutin.
