SARAJEVO, NOVEMBER 5 /SRNA/ – The Prosecutor's Office of BiH is taking steps to identify ways to prosecute Nedžad Herenda and Edvin Jusić, who are subject to Interpol arrest warrants over their involvement in the killing of eight members of the Yugoslav People's Army /JNA/ in Sarajevo's Great Park/Veliki Park in 1992, the judicial institution told SRNA.
The Prosecutor's Office confirmed that a case concerning the suspects is ongoing, but said it could not provide any further information or details at this time.
It also stated that Herenda and Jusić are abroad and are unavailable to the judicial authorities of BiH.
Asked by SRNA whether the Ministry of Justice within the Council of Ministers would take any steps regarding reports that Herenda and Jusić are abroad and unavailable to the BiH judicial authorities, despite being accessible to journalists, the Ministry responded that it does not act on its own initiative, but exclusively upon requests from judicial authorities.
"For an answer, please contact the competent prosecutor's office," SRNA was told.
The Detektor news portal reported that Nedžad Herenda and Edvin Jusić, who are subject to Interpol arrest warrants, appeared before journalists to present their own accounts of the events.
According to the same source, Herenda, who lives in the Netherlands, and Jusić, who resides in Germany, provided journalists with differing accounts of the events of April 22, 1992.
The responses from the competent institutions leave unclear how individuals suspected of war crimes can be accessible to journalists but not to police agencies and judicial authorities, as well as what steps should be taken in this regard.
