GOGANOVIĆ: SERBIAN PEOPLE WILL BE A KEY U.S. PARTNER IN THIS PART OF THE WORLD, WHICH BOTHERS MANY

WASHINGTON, April 24 /SRNA/ – Deputy Minister of Defense in the Council of Ministers, Aleksandar Goganović, today visited Arlington National Cemetery in Washington and laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

“This activity symbolizes the deep historical ties between the Serbian and American peoples, whose armies stood as allies during some of the most difficult moments in world history. The alliance from the First World War is especially remembered, and was further strengthened during the Second World War,” emphasized Goganović, who is visiting the United States as part of an official delegation from the Ministry of Defense in the Council of Ministers.

Goganović told SRNA that one of the most powerful symbols of the alliance between the two nations occurred on July 28, 1918, when, by order of then-U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, the Serbian flag flew over the White House as a sign of solidarity and respect for the Serbian people.

He stressed that the Serbian people remain firmly committed to the joint fight against terrorism and all forms of extremism, and will continue to be a reliable U.S. partner in preserving global peace.

“I am convinced that, in the time ahead, the Serbian people will become a key U.S. partner in this part of Europe – and that fact bothers many,” Goganović concluded.
