COURT ORDERS SEIZURE OF KONAKOVIĆ'S PROPERTY OVER DEFAMATION CASE

SARAJEVO, OCTOBER 27 /SRNA/ – The Municipal Court Sarajevo has ordered the seizure of property belonging to Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Council of Ministers Elmedin Konaković, including accrued interest, after he was convicted of defamation and fined BAM 3,000.

The court ruled that the sentence be enforced by garnishing half of his salary. For the portion of income exceeding BAM 1,000, up to two-thirds of that amount may be seized and transferred to the bank account designated in the enforcement order until full payment is made, Avaz reports.

The court also instructed Konaković's employer to comply with the order and to immediately notify the court of any change in his employment status.

Avaz recalls that on December 6, 2019, the Municipal Court Sarajevo ruled that Konaković had committed defamation against Maja Hadžihalilović for statements made on September 20, 2018, which were connected to alleged irregularities in the election process.

The court awarded BAM 3,000 in non-material damages, along with statutory interest from the date the lawsuit was filed, and ordered Konaković to pay BAM 1,060 in court costs.

With the initiation of this enforcement process, the next phase of compulsory collection will begin, involving regular deductions from his income until the accrued interest and costs are fully paid.

The Ministry, as the employer, is required to immediately comply with the court order and transfer the garnished amounts on a monthly basis until the full debt is settled. The ruling has been final and enforceable since September 25 of this year.
