BEĆIROVIĆ WARNED THAT APPOINTMENTS TO NATIONAL MONUMENTS COMMISSION HAVE INTERNATIONAL CHARACTER

SARAJEVO, JULY 1 /SRNA/ - Secretary General of the BiH Presidency Zoran Đerić warned Bosniak member of the Presidency Denis Bećirović that issues related to the Commission to Preserve National Monuments have international character.

The memorandum pointed out that, following the departure of Serb member Željka Cvijanović from the session, he had drawn attention to the quorum requirement under the applicable regulations.

"I pointed out that the Commission consists of five members and that we do not have a proposed Commission member from Republika Srpska, meaning that after the vote we would end up with an incomplete composition of the Commission, which would create further problems in its work," it is stated in Đerić's memorandum obtained by Glas Srpske.

He maintains that the obligations assumed under Annex 8 of the Dayton Peace Accords, relating to the Commission, also have an international character.

"The legal basis for establishing the Commission is an international treaty, which in itself places the matter within the sphere of foreign policy. Furthermore, the decision in question appoints members proposed by UNESCO, which further indicates that it falls within the domain of foreign policy," the memorandum states, adding that all previous compositions of the BiH Presidency adopted such decisions by consensus.

Đerić also reminded of the actions taken by SIPA at the end of last year in a case concerning the conduct of certain officials and senior staff of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments.
