KINSHASA, JUNE 20 /SRNA–RIA Novosti/ – Seventeen healthcare workers involved in combating the Ebola outbreak in Congo have died, while 75 have been infected, the World Health Organisation /WHO/ announced.
“This means that 20.46 percent of those infected have succumbed to the disease,” said acting WHO Regional Emergency Director for Africa, Marie Roseline Belizaire.
She stressed that, despite intensified public health measures, the epidemic continues to spread rapidly in Congo, with increased transmission recorded in 33 health zones across three provinces.
According to data from the Congolese Ministry of Health, a total of 896 confirmed Ebola cases and 232 confirmed deaths have been recorded so far, while 78 patients have recovered.
