DAKAR, OCTOBER 2 /SRNA-Reuters/ - The death toll from the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo has surpassed 4,000, according to data from the Congolese Government published on its website.
According to official data, the number of deaths has risen to 4,018, while the number of confirmed cases has reached 8,300 in seven provinces, in the most severe epidemic in the country's history.
More than 2,000 patients have recovered from the disease.
Efforts to contain and combat the epidemic have still failed to fully bring the spread of the infectious disease under control. The epidemic was caused by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola and has become the largest and deadliest in Congo after surpassing the 2018–2020 epidemic in terms of both the number of cases and fatalities.
