WASHINGTON, OCTOBER 24 /SRNA/ - U.S. forces seized more than 222 kilograms of drugs from a vessel sailing in the Caribbean Sea, Joint Interagency Task Force South said.
"While tracking another target, a maritime patrol aircraft detected a speedboat in the Caribbean near U.S. territory, prompting a swift and coordinated maritime interdiction," the task force said on X.
The interception enabled U.S. authorities to seize six packages containing 222 kilograms of drugs.
"Three people operating the speedboat were also detained," the statement said.
The operation was carried out in support of efforts by the U.S. Department of War and U.S. Southern Command to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific.
In November 2025, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth launched Operation Southern Spear, targeting drug cartels in Latin America.
As part of the operation, the U.S. military has been striking vessels in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific that Washington links to drug cartels.
