TWIN TOWERS ATTACK VICTIM IDENTIFIED USING DNA GENEALOGY

NEW YORK, AUGUST 24 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ - One of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks has been identified using DNA genealogy, New York City Chief Medical Examiner Jason Graham said. Graham said the method combines DNA analysis with family-tree analysis, a technique that was not available at the time of the attacks. With this identification, the official number of victims whose identities are known has risen to 1,651 out of the nearly 3,000 people killed in the attacks, ABC News reported. Forensic anthropologist Jennifer Odien said the technology could potentially help identify the remains of at least 47 more victims, and that the identities of around 1,100 victims remain unknown.
