WASHINGTON, JUNE 21 /SRNA/ – U.S. President Donald Trump said today that the United States could “take control” of the Strait of Hormuz if no agreement is reached with Iran.
Trump issued the warning to Iranian negotiators currently in Switzerland, where talks are being held on a regional agreement and Iran’s nuclear programme.
“We may have to take over the strait. If they don’t reach a deal, we’ll charge a toll,” Trump told Fox News.
He told the Iranian side that closing the strait would not be in their interest, because if they did so, they would “no longer have a state”.
Trump added that the United States could become, as he says, the strait’s “guardian angel”, in the case of which, would control 20 percent of the oil transported through this key maritime route.
