TRUMP THREATENED TO RENAME LAKE ONTARIO TO LAKE AMERICA

WASHINGTON, AUGUST 25 /SRNA - RIA Novosti/ - US President Donald Trump threatened to rename Lake Ontario to Lake America following failed trade negotiations with Canada and deteriorating relations with the Premier of the Canadian province of Ontario, Doug Ford.

"The US is seriously considering changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America, as we no longer expect to do much business with Ontario," Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social.

Trade negotiations between the US and Canada ended without an agreement on Friday, August 21, when the deadline to reach a deal expired.

Ottawa and Washington exchanged accusations over the failure, with both sides citing last-minute changes to the terms of the agreement and new, unacceptable demands.

The following day, the US imposed a 50 percent tariff on Canadian imported goods, with a total value exceeding 20 billion dollars.
