JERUSALEM, OCTOBER 29 /SRNA/ – Iran is preparing to interfere in the U.S. congressional elections after attempting to disrupt Israel’s general election on Tuesday, the British newspaper The Telegraph reports.

Iranian officials have described plans to infiltrate electoral processes and hack voting systems, according to the article.

Several Iranian officials said that Tehran views elections in Israel and the USA as an opportunity to politically weaken its main adversaries, as the conflict between Iran, Israel and the USA continues.

One Iranian official said that Tehran was examining ways to recruit individuals involved in the electoral processes in both countries, while cyber groups had been established to target electoral systems.

Another official told The Telegraph that Iran considers these operations an extension of its military confrontation with Washington and Jerusalem, aimed at destabilising both countries rather than ensuring victory for particular candidates.

The officials stressed that Tehran expects political divisions in Israel and the USA to limit the ability of their respective administrations to conduct further military operations against Iran.

The U.S. congressional elections will be held on November 3.
