WASHINGTON, JUNE 13 /SRNA–Reuters/ – Officials from the United States and Iran have indicated that an agreement to end the war is close, with Washington expecting it to be finalized in the coming days.
A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the agreement could be signed as early as tomorrow. The signatories could be U.S. Vice President J. D. Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, while Geneva is being mentioned as the most likely venue for the signing.
A senior U.S. administration official stated that both sides have agreed on the text of the document and that Washington expects an initial agreement to be signed within the next few days.
The official said that the agreement fulfills the key objectives of U.S. President Donald Trump and that negotiations are at a very advanced stage.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that amendments to the text remain possible, but that a framework agreement has already been reached.
He added that the agreement will be signed remotely before being officially announced.
Sources involved in the talks said that the proposed memorandum provides for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports. This would be followed by negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme, which Trump cited as the reason for launching the military operation.
