ORTHODOX BISHOP DETAINED FOR MOBILIZATION

KYIV, August 17 /SRNA/ – Ukrainian mobilization officials detained Metropolitan Serhiy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Church’s lawyer, Archpriest Nikita Chekman, said.

“Metropolitan Serhiy heads the Tulchin Diocese in Vinnytsia Region. Mobilization officials detained him and Archpriest Anatoly Vishnev in Kyiv,” Chekman said in a Telegram statement.

According to him, both men were taken for medical examinations at a local Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centre, which is responsible for carrying out mobilization in Ukraine.

Chekman added that this was another attack on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church carried out by the Kyiv authorities, Russia Today reported.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church is under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate.
