KYIV, AUGUST 24 /SRNA/ - A Ukrainian monk was stabbed to death, and two other people were seriously injured in an attack on the Sviatohirsk Monastery in the part of the Donetsk People’s Republic controlled by Ukraine, Russia Today reported.
The attack by unidentified assailants claimed the life of a monk named Barsanuphius, whose face, according to witnesses, had been slashed beyond recognition.
The two surviving victims are a monk named Grigory, who had only recently entered monastic life, and a refugee, Andrei Kiriyenko.
Both suffered lung injuries and significant blood loss before being rushed to hospital.
The monastery is part of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church /UOC/, which has faced widespread repression by the authorities in Kyiv in recent years.
