BEIJING, OCTOBER 29 /SRNA/ - Short and mid-length series are a new form of popular art born in the digital age, it was said at China Media Group's /CMG/ National Conference dedicated to such series, held in Shanghai's Pudong district.

Addressing the CMG National Conference on October 18, Li Zheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Secretary of the CPC Pudong New Area Committee, said that, although short, these series reflect the spirit of the times and convey powerful messages in concise form.

They represent a new direction in cultural consumption and a modern means of telling China's stories and making China's voice heard around the world, CMG said.

CMG's Shanghai bureau and the People's Government of Pudong New Area signed a framework agreement on strategic cooperation.

As China's open window to the world and a hub of innovation, Pudong is said to have exceptional advantages for developing this sector, thanks to its concentration of advanced technologies, including large AI models, as well as the establishment of China's first base dedicated to bringing short series to overseas markets.

The conference was attended by Shen Haixiong, Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and President of CMG.

Together with other guests, Shen launched CMG's National Joint Plan for creating top-quality short and mid-length series.

Holding the first conference of this kind in Pudong continues Shanghai's now century-old tradition in film and television art, and also reflects confidence in and support for the development of the digital audiovisual industry in the area.

In her address, CMG editorial board member Jiang Haiqing said that in recent years CMG has consistently studied and applied Xi Jinping's thought on culture and has produced a series of top-quality artistic and television works, further strengthening the reputation of the "CMG’s Best Grand Dramas" brand.

Short and mid-length series, she said, manage to convey profound messages and big ideas in a concise format, drawing on audience appeal, the spirit of the times and the power of culture.

China Media Group will use the conference as an opportunity to fully leverage its strengths as the leading national media outlet in platforms, content and communications.

It will guide the industry's development through quality productions, pool forces for further development through diverse cooperation, foster innovation by investing in education and staff training, and expand the format's expressive possibilities through new technologies.

The conference presented a group of quality short and mid-length series, including "Red Code", "Emei", "Thirty - The Beginning of Maturity" and "The Last Mile".

Several joint creative programs were also launched, as well as projects to improve production through the use of new technologies.
