MACAO'S FIVE-YEAR PLAN PROVES SUCCESS OF ONE COUNTRY, TWO SYSTEMS PRINCIPLE

BEIJING, AUGUST 21 /SRNA/ - Macao's 2026-2030 Economic - Social Development Plan fully demonstrates the institutional advantages of China's One Country, Two Systems principle, the China Media Group reported.

The recently unveiled plan is aligned with China's 15th Five-Year Plan and actively integrates Macao into the country's overall development, while also making full use of the special administrative region's unique advantages.

"The third five-year plan is Macao’s important initiative to advance the One Country, Two Systems principle and integrate more efficiently into the country's overall development," Macao Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai said at a press conference held on Tuesday, August 18, at the headquarters of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government.

Sam identified four major challenges for the 2026-2030 period, including achieving an appropriate level of economic diversification through major projects and government support funds.

Among these challenges, he also cited deepening integrated development with Hengqin in southern Guangdong Province and further developing the cooperation zone, accelerating urban renewal and building a beautiful and "smart" Macao, as well as strengthening Macao's ties with mainland China and the rest of the world.

The China Media Group noted that Macao is home to four national key laboratories covering areas such as computer technology, microelectronics, the Internet, and smart cities things. They serve as platforms for research and development, as well as international cooperation.

The plan promotes a model in which "industry raises the questions and science provides the solutions", encouraging the establishment of joint laboratories by universities and businesses in order to bridge the gap between scientific research and its commercialisation.

Over the next five years, Macao will strengthen cooperation with countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as with Portuguese-Spanish-speaking countries, seeking to build an important bridge for China's opening-up to the world and a significant gateway for exchanges between Chinese and Western civilisations.
