ROME, OCTOBER 30 /SRNA/ - Pope Leo XIV will become the first head of the Roman Catholic Church to vote in elections in America, US media reported.
Kim Fledhamer, head of the county clerk's office in Will County, said the pope submitted a request to vote by mail on October 3.
The request was submitted under his civil name, Robert Francis Prevost.
According to US media, the ballot was sent to the Vatican, but it is not known whether it has been returned to America.
The conclave elected Cardinal Prevost as the 267th pope in May last year, following the death of Pope Francis at the age of 88.
Pope Leo XIV became the first American to head the Catholic Church.
On November 3, US citizens will vote to elect 35 senators and all 435 members of the House of Representatives, along with state legislative and gubernatorial elections in many states.
The Republican Party currently controls Congress with a narrow majority.
