LE PEN'S PARTY PLANS HIJAB BAN

PARIS, AUGUST 31 /SRNA - RIA Novosti/ - Members of the National Rally parliamentary group, led by Marine Le Pen, plan to introduce a ban on wearing the hijab if they come to power in France, stated party MP Jean-Philippe Tanguy.

"We will introduce a ban on wearing the Muslim veil," Tanguy said.

He added that violating the ban would be punishable by a fine.

Le Pen has repeatedly placed ahead of her rivals in French public opinion polls as a potential presidential candidate.

In a recent poll conducted by the Toluna Harris Interactive agency on August 18 and 19, she took first place with the support of 35 to 38 percent of voters.
