LAVROV: WEST PUSHING SERBIA TO ACCEPT LOSS OF KOSOVO AND METOHIJA

NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 26 /SRNA/ - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told the UN General Assembly that the West was endangering the lives of billions of people while at the same time pressuring Serbia to accept the loss of Kosovo and Metohija and to give up its own history.

He said the West was increasingly resorting to brute force and acting unpredictably and adventurously, thereby endangering the lives and well-being of millions, if not billions, of people around the world, Sputnik reported.

"The West's policy of force and double standards is destabilizing the situation everywhere, while in the Balkans the EU is clearly ignoring UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and pressuring Serbia to accept that it has lost Kosovo and Metohija and to renounce its own history," Lavrov said.

He added that the West was also pressuring Serbia to impose sanctions on Russia while offering what he described as the illusion of eventual European integration.

At the same time, he said, as part of efforts to centralize BiH, Serbs were being pressured to give up constitutional rights guaranteed to them by the Dayton Agreement and the UN Security Council.

Lavrov also said that nearly the entire West votes every year against a Russian resolution condemning the glorification of Nazism.

"I would like to emphasize that the outcome of World War II forms the foundation of the postwar world order and is established in the UN Charter," the Russian foreign minister said.
