WARSAW, NOVEMBER 2 /SRNA - RIA Novosti/ - Poland's Permanent Representative to the UN Krzysztof Szczerski has resigned amid the constitutional crisis in the country, Polish Foreign Ministry spokesman Maciej Wewior said.

"Ambassador Szczerski asked Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski to shorten his diplomatic mission at the UN, which he did. Ambassador Szczerski is concluding his mission this month," Wewior said on X.

Sikorski said earlier that Polish President Karol Nawrocki had personally asked the ambassadors to resign because of the constitutional crisis.

The ambassadors to Romania and China, Pawel Soloch and Jakub Kumoch, also resigned last week.

The crisis over Poland's Constitutional Tribunal has been going on since 2015, and escalated sharply at the end of the week when police blocked access to the court.

Polish Justice Minister and Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek has requested that the immunity of the Tribunal's president, Bogdan Swieczkowski, and vice president, Bartlomiej Sochanski, be lifted so they can be prosecuted for allegedly obstructing justice.
