BERLIN, JULY 9 /SRNA/ – The German parliament has rejected a proposal by the Green Party to increase military assistance to Ukraine by supplying more long-range Taurus cruise missiles and Patriot air defense missiles.
The Greens submitted a 20-point motion to the Bundestag calling for the transfer of as many Taurus cruise missiles as possible from Germany's military stockpiles to Ukraine, as well as the production of an additional batch of Patriot PAC-2 missiles for Kyiv.
The proposal was rejected in the 630-seat parliament, with 79 votes in favor, 510 against and one abstention. Of the 79 lawmakers who supported the motion, 78 were members of the Green Party.
Russia has repeatedly warned that arms deliveries to Ukraine undermine peace efforts and make NATO countries parties to the conflict.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that any shipment containing weapons for Ukraine would be considered a legitimate military target for Russia.
