GIRL KILLED IN BUNGEE JUMPING ACCIDENT AFTER STAFF FORGOT TO ATTACH SAFETY ROPE

LIMEIRA, JUNE 14 /SRNA/ – Twenty-one-year-old model Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas was killed in a bungee jumping accident after staff failed to attach the safety rope to her harness.

The tragedy occurred at Ponte do Esqueleto bridge in Limeira, in the state of São Paulo, when the young woman fell from the 40-metre-high bridge.

Local media reported that six people had been arrested, two of whom attempted to flee following the accident. Police are investigating whether negligence contributed to the tragedy.

Footage circulating on social media shows the moment three instructors lifted the woman, who was standing with her arms outstretched, and pushed her from the edge of the bridge.

As she fell, witnesses could be heard shouting in Portuguese, “The rope, the rope!”, which remained on the bridge.

Emergency services arrived at the scene but could only confirm the woman's death.

According to media reports, the Instagram account of the company that organised the jumps has been deleted, as has the WhatsApp group through which information about the event was shared.

The Limeira City Council has announced legal action against the federal government for allowing unrestricted access to the dangerous bridge.
