KRAKOW, NOVEMBER 7 /SRNA/ - Krakow Mayor Łukasz Gibała has declared four days of mourning, until November 11, following a shooting in which six people were killed.
Gibała convened a crisis management team at the city administration, where the relevant services are currently carrying out their response activities, TVP reported.
Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński said that one of the injured was in very serious condition and was undergoing surgery.
A Russian national was also injured in the shooting, an unnamed source familiar with the situation told RIA Novosti, but did not provide details about the man's condition.
The police in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship have denied reports that a police officer died from injuries sustained during the intervention.
Six people were killed and 15 injured, including two police officers, in a shooting from a moving vehicle in a square in central Krakow.
The victims included four women and two men, Reuters reported, citing Polish officials.
The attacker drove onto the city's main square and began shooting at random passers-by. He also opened fire on a public transport tram.
The city administration said that shots were fired at a tram from a moving vehicle during the attack, shattering a window in the driver's cab. However, neither the driver nor any passengers were injured.
Police confirmed that the attacker was a Polish citizen. Even after being wounded by police, he continued shooting at them, a police spokeswoman said, the Associated Press reported.
According to her, the 24-year-old attacker was wearing a military uniform and body armor and was armed with a military-style long gun. Police found additional weapons and ammunition in his car.
Police confirmed that he acted alone and that there was no longer any danger to the public.
