FLOODS AND LANDSLIDES KILL 70

BHUBANESWAR, SEPTEMBER 27 /SRNA-Reuters/ - Heavy rains and storms triggered floods and landslides that killed 56 people in India and 14 in Nepal, while 11 others remain missing, authorities in the two countries said, warning of more rainfall.

India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh recorded 66.5 millimeters of rain from September 25, compared with the usual 7.6 millimeters for this period.

Rescue operations and relief distribution are under way in flooded areas.

Officials have been instructed to assess crop damage and arrange compensation.

Reports said another 46 people were injured in India and more than 1,000 homes were damaged.

Authorities in Nepal warned of possible flash floods in 49 of the country's 77 districts as water levels in major rivers and tributaries continued to rise.
