MOSCOW, OCTOBER 3 /SRNA/ - Five bodies have been found during a cleanup operation at the site of a fire at a chemical plant in Krasnozavodsk in the Moscow Region, acting head of the Sergiyev Posad urban district Alexei Luzhetsky said.
"The cleanup operation following the fire at the Krasnozavodsk chemical plant has been completed. It is with regret that I inform you that five bodies have been found," he wrote on his Max channel.
Luzhetsky expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
"This is an irreparable loss and a shared grief. Psychological support is being provided to the families of the victims at this difficult time. We are doing everything possible to help and support them," he said.
Air quality monitoring is also ongoing. No levels exceeding the permissible limits for hazardous substances have been detected.
"There is no threat to the residents of Krasnozavodsk or the surrounding district," Luzhetsky stressed.
The fire broke out on the evening of October 1 in one of the production buildings at the Krasnozavodsk Chemical Plant in the Sergiyev Posad urban district of the Moscow Region.
The fire engulfed an area of 1,000 square metres, and the area affected by the structural collapse covered 2,000 square metres, TASS reported.
