ANKARA, SEPTEMBER 5 /SRNA - RIA Novosti/ — The death toll from a ferry capsizing off the coast of Cyprus has risen to 13, while the search for 15 missing people continues, CNN Turk reports.
The passenger ferry Filo Jet capsized and sank near the city of Kyrenia on August 30 while sailing toward the Turkish city of Mersin.
The vessel began taking on water through its bow shortly after leaving port. There were 267 people on board.
The report said that ships and other units dispatched from Turkiye were taking part in the search and rescue operation.
Rescuers continue to search the sea and the area where the vessel sank.
Nine crew members, including the captain, were previously detained as part of the investigation into the accident.
The investigation is being conducted in coordination with the Turkish authorities in the northern part of Cyprus.
