BEIJING, OCTOBER 23 /SRNA/ – Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered emergency rescue operations following a magnitude 7.0 earthquake that struck Baqên County in Tibet.

Xi noted that the earthquake-hit area is located at a high altitude and that weather conditions are harsh due to the cold.

He stressed the need to closely monitor the situation and weather conditions following the earthquake, carry out rescue operations, and prevent secondary disasters.

He emphasized the need to expedite the distribution of relief supplies, provide assistance to residents affected by the earthquake, restore damaged infrastructure, and efficiently protect the lives and property of the population.

Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang called for a rapid assessment of the scale of the disaster, every effort to be made in rescue and humanitarian operations, and medical assistance for the injured. He also called for appropriate support for the local population to minimize the number of deaths and injuries.

In accordance with the instructions and requirements of the Chinese president and prime minister, the Ministry of Emergency Management dispatched a working group to the affected area to coordinate disaster response efforts.

The Xizang region has mobilized all available resources to conduct rescue operations and provide appropriate assistance to the affected population, China Media Group reports.
